
Greater Middle Baptist Church of Memphis, Tennessee, organized in 1831, is seeking a Senior Pastor. The Senior Pastor must be a spiritual and administrative leader of the congregation.
We are currently accepting candidate applications, now through March 31, 2026.
Qualifications / Education / Experience:
- Pastoral / Ministerial experience of five (5) or more years preferred
- Preaching experience of five (5) or more years preferred
- Counseling experience of five (5) or more years preferred
- Administrative experience of three (3) or more years preferred
- A Degree in Theology or Divinity is required.
- Must be an ordained and licensed minister
- Must possess a clear understanding of the Baptist Church Doctrine
- Must effectively communicate God’s Word through well-prepared Sermons based in textual Scripture
- Must possess strong leadership skills to enhance church growth
- Must have the ability to work cooperatively with Deacons, Trustees, and all Ministries of the Church
- Must develop relationships within the congregation that promote compassion and love for all demographics within the Church
Principal Pastoral Duties:
- Preach and teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ
- Actively participate and provide a spiritual vision to increase attendance in Church School, Bible Study, Prayer Meeting, Evangelism and Community Outreach
- Design and implement plans to educate and involve new members in Ministries of the Church
- Present a clear vision for the future of the Church
- Establish educational and other programs for the development of children, youth, seniors, and adults of the Church
- Officiate weddings, funerals, and baby dedications
- Visit / Contact GMBC members who are ill and bereaved GMBC families
- Administer the Ordinance of The Lord’s Supper
- Support and commit to the Church’s Mission Statement and Bylaws
- Conduct quarterly business meetings
- Meet regularly with Deacons and Trustees
- Meet monthly, or as needed, with a representative of the Music Ministry and/or Church Musician
- Participate in associations (Local, State, Regional, and National)
- Other related duties that support and uplift the spiritual growth of GMBC members and visitors
