The Bible admonishes believers in 1 Corinthians 14:40 (KJV) to “Let all things be done decently and in order.”
In order to maintain an orderly environment, GMBC relies upon its dedicated team of ushers, who perform a unique ministry, making certain that the worship service remains free of unwanted distractions. They are members in good standing and possess six essential qualities:
- Christianity
- Courtesy
- Alertness
- Promptness
- Courageousness
- Discipline
To ensure that they can successfully and consistently carry out their duties, ushers complete the following:
- Are in place several minutes before worship serviced to greet people before and after services begin
- Seat people at times and as needed to ensure that their entrance remains distraction-free during morning worship
- Seat people near the front and center, if possible
- Distribute the church bulletin or other materials to the worshipper before he or she is seated
- Are familiar with physical facilities, offices, phone, and first aid, and remain prepared to assist whenever necessary
- Are alert to individuals’ needs during worship services
- Help to maintain order
We are so appreciative of GMBC’s dedicated and hard-working ushers.
Greeters Committee
Originally the Hostess Committee, organized in July 1997 by the late Doris Williams, GMBC Greeters welcome visitors to our worship services. They are the first persons whom worshippers meet before entering the Sanctuary. Their goal is not only to greet visitors but to support our church spiritually and financially.
The duties of GMBC Greeters include the following actions:
- Greet visitors and members at the door each Sunday, and make them feel welcome with warm smiles, handshakes, and words of welcome
- Serve during other church functions or activities, such as funerals and dinners
- Work closely with the Usher Board in distributing literature, visitors cards, and other needed materials
- Help to coordinate special projects and programs
Psalm 84:10 reminds us of the privilege it is to be a “doorkeeper” in the House of The Lord. Let us all carry this same spirit of service from this life into the next.
